Ferdinand Magellan was a Portuguese explorer and famous for his circumnavigation the world. He was a soldier for eight years serve the Portuguese fleet in Indian Ocean. The entire voyage created a couple of life changing reasons. It created trade troops and revealed the true scale of the earth. It took Ferdinand Magellan five years of planning whether to make his dream into reality.
On September 21, 1519, the circumnavigation began from Spain to unknown place. The voyage started with 270 diversity men. Then they later arrive in the peaceful sea which known as the Pacific Ocean. Also, the men discover that the sky is different. On December 28, 1520, Ferdinand made another error. The fleet turn Northwest in Pacific. Magellan believes that only three days left until he reached the spice island. From this, Ferdinand Magellan used 2nd century scholar by Ptolemy. Magellan learned the hard way. Ptolemy was out by over 11,000km. Among the oceans Pacific is the biggest one. Over 90 plus lives were lost including Magellan and 28,000km. of journey they’ve finally reached the spice islands. On the other side, they only have two ships left. Juan have to make a choice between returning the same route they’ve went or continue to west. The two remaining ships were Trinidad, and Victoria. The Trinidad ship sailed across the pacific. The cargo was seized. The ship was burn and the crews turn into jail. On the other hand, The Victoria ship head west, 20,000km. away to Spain. Juan Elcano decided to navigate fast tracks to avoid the capture of the people as they sailed into owned territory. Two months/ almost 5,0000km. They encountered a powerful storm that destroy part of Victoria ship. This leads to another difficulty of the crewmen. Twenty-five to thirty men fell sick and later nineteen men were drastically died. The cost of death is either scurvy or starvation. Juan escaped the scurvy as he ate a spoon of jelly jam. They later led the Victoria across vast ocean past the Cape of Good Hope and Cope Verde Island back to Spain. They began the voyage of 270 men, unfortunately only 18 men returned
