Imagine leaving your house for months not knowing whether you will ever return the only thing you will see is open water. What you just thought about was how Ferdinand Magellan felt on his voyage of sailing all of the way around the world going west. Ferdinand Magellan was an explorer from the fifteenth century. Ferdinand Magellan was a Spanish explorer and made the very important discovery that proved that the Earth was not flat but the Earth was round. No one knows exactly when Ferdinand Magellan was born but most people believe he was born in 1480 in Portugal. He was either born in Sabrosa, Portugal or Opoto, Portugal which were only about twenty five miles apart from each other. A lot but not all of his young life still remains a mystery. …show more content…
His family supported his ideas on sailing even though he could've died on any of his dangerous journeys. Nobody knows exactly how many brothers and sisters he had but it says he had at least one brother and at least two sisters but there could've been more siblings. While living on his family's farm he worked with the animals, shot small animals with his crossbow, and crushed grapes to help his dad make juice and wine.
In his young life he was a very religious kid. He attended church very regularly. He was a Christian and spread the word of God. He also attended a very nice school of nobility. He learned about traveling the sea by a very experienced traveler who went on many of his own journeys. The more he learned in school the more he was interested in traveling. The more interested he got in traveling the more he wanted to be a captain of his own ship. Ferdinand Magellan went through many denials throughout his life.He tried to kiss Duke Manuel out of respect but Manuel refused this. Magellan had many different feelings about all of his denials. One feeling was humiliated, because he got denied by Manuel in front of many people that are in high places. Another feeling he felt was ashamed, because he asked for an increase in pay and got denied. The last thing he felt was disgraced, because he disgraced his family then finally hobbled off
