Back in the 1920 the u.s. congress came up with the “Federal Power Commission” (FPC). The name was later changed in 1977 to “Federal Energy regulatory Commission” (FERC). There main priority was to regulate oil pipelines, natural gas, hydro-electric projects, and wholesale rates of electricity. Today with over one thousand employees they regulate pricing for about 73% of the power used in the u.s. One goal they have in mind is to have reliable and efficient energy for the consumer while maintaining a reasonable cost. FERC slowly started to diminish over the years. In the late 1900’s the bush energy plan came into effect, putting FERC back in the game. FERC is now in the center of the energy market.
