FERC
Back in the 1920 the u.s. congress came up with the “Federal Power Commission” (FPC). The name was later changed in 1977 to “Federal Energy regulatory Commission” (FERC). There main priority was to regulate oil pipelines, natural gas, hydro-electric projects, and wholesale rates of electricity. Today with over one thousand employees they regulate pricing for about 73% of the power used in the u.s. One goal they have in mind is to have reliable and efficient energy for the consumer while maintaining a reasonable cost. FERC slowly started to diminish over the years. In the late 1900’s the bush energy plan came into effect, putting FERC back in the game. FERC is now in the center of the energy market.

Front Street Hospital: Uninsured Charges and Collections (pg. 237 of Cases in Healthcare Finance, 5th edition) It is quite clear from the text’s exposition on the policy, billing, and collection habits of certain not-for-profit hospitals that serious injustices were being committed against uninsured patients. These injustices were primarily financial in nature – although physical and psychological trauma almost always followed – and they reveal the systematic nature of the abuse. By setting “rack rates” – an extremely expensive set rate for medical procedures – as the ‘standard fare’ for all patients, while simultaneously granting clear and enormous discounts for those insured through third-party entities, the not-for-profit hospitals unconscionably…

In the last week of February, a historical event took place here in the U.S. when a tanker left the coast of Louisiana carrying America’s first liquefied natural gas (LNG) export to Brazil. Although ironically taking a look back in history when Canada was in the developing stages, it was made illegal for a woman to get an abortion outside of a hospital under S. 251 of the criminal code.…
