As an accredited teacher it is my responsibility to be up-to-date with all of the standards applicable to all areas of teaching. Fenton Charter emphasis primarily on subjects such as science and technology, therefore I am committed to encouraging all of my students to succeed in all standards, however, I put extra emphasis on math and the sciences. In my classroom, I follow the guidance of the California standards and always try and model with Mathematics and science in mind.
Q2: If you could teach just one subject: Math or Science, what would you choose? Why?
That is a very difficult question to answer because I believe that mathematics and science go hand in hand, but for the sake of this question, I will say math because I believe that by learning math, you can learn how and why things work. Also because we live in a global world and I want to prepare my students to compete for the interesting, challenging jobs against people from the whole world.
Q3: What sorts of assessment, both formal and informal, do you view as being important indicators of successful performance for students learning Math and Science?

I have to follow guidelines and give formal assessments to all of my students such as formal test, but I don’t always believe that test is an indicator of successful performance because sometimes there are those students in every classroom who can perfectly articulate how to solve many different math or science problems, but when it comes to test, many times they underperform. Giving test also always leave me asking my self-questions such as: Is the test too hard? Is the test too easy? What if my students don’t use the strategies they have learned? I have also learned that multiple choice or free response test is not the best way to assess what my students know and what they have
