Troy’s mistakes have his children an example and visual o what not to be in life. The bolder of bad and oppressive memories from the Maxson household are being carried around at all times by the individuals in that family. That bolder also has benefits giving them a continuous reminder of their past and acting as a drive to provide for their families and to be emotionally fulfilling toward their loved ones. Troy is a prime example of how one key individuals in a situation can make a good situation into a tragedy. In other words, no matter how much he wanted to play college football and his dad wouldn’t let him, he still found a way to be better in life. During the time frame from Troy’s funeral, Cory found himself singing one of his father’s songs about the dog named Blue with Raynell. In that moment Cory realized the love and lessons that Troy passed on where in his own way and from different experiences he may have had in life. The relationships are diminished but through Raynell, Cory saw the unorthodoxies lessons that were passed on to them in different ways.

In the play Fences by August Wilson, the reader is presented the meaning and significance of the title, Fences. Though there is only one physical fence in the play, the title uses the plural form to convey the many fences that are presented literally or figuratively throughout the story. These "fences" create many types of barriers in the play, barriers that create a severance between father and son, husband and wife, and even death and life. The literal fence overlaps into the meaning of the symbolic and metaphorical fence, but ultimately the fence was a symbolic figure of protection for those Rose loved, a literal separation between Troy and Cory, and a metaphorical separation between Troy and Mr. Death.…
