Breaking a bone Have you ever broken your leg? Because my friend has and he told me a lot of facts and truths. My friend Corbin Demetre Robertson broke his Femur on August 24, 2014. While playing football for our school during a practice. On a hot day in august Corbin Robertson broke his Femur during football practice. He did not do it himself instead someone hit him with their helmet on his leg. And Corbin said “I knew it was broke immediately after I heard, snap, and I felt it my leg.” They took him to the hospital and they confirmed it was broke He was in the hospital for four days before they let him go home. The doctor kept him in a wheelchair for two months. And the they put him on crutches for a month and a half.

Femur, the bone of thigh, also known as os femoris, is the longest and strongest bone of human body. The head of the femur articulates with the acetabulum of hip bone forming the ball and socket variety of synovial joint-the hip joint, whereas the distal part of the femur articulates with the tibia and patella forming the knee joint. The anatomy of the proximal end of the femur, in recent years had received the much deserved attention because of the importance of early treatment of congenital dislocation and advent of arthroplasty procedures. Susceptibility to numerous pediatric and adult disorders correlates with variations in the morphological and morphometric aspects of the bone and a proper understanding of the anatomy of this region is…

    What Does Bones Break?

Bones break when subjected to abnormal stresses. The process of repair begins as soon as the fracture occurs. Blood vessels in Haversian canals, periosteum, and marrow tend to rupture from fractures. Blood then flows into the fracture zone forming a hematoma that coagulates as blood vessels are sealed off. When periosteum is torn and pulled from the broken bone, it stimulates an osteogenic layer of periosteum to form a callus, which is a fracture repair tissue that forms a natural splint.…

The tibia, commonly known as the shin bone, is a large, weight-bearing bone found in the lower leg. According to Lewis et al (2015), the tibia is one of the most common sites for stress fractures (p.1528). “Although the tibia is vulnerable to injury because it lacks a covering of anterior muscle, strong force is required to produce a fractured tibia” (Lewis et al, 2015 p.1528). Possible complications with a tibial fracture are compartment syndrome, fat embolisms and in the case of compound fractures, infection. Due to the necessity of structural support the tibia provides, surgery is a common way to stabilize a fracture.…
