On May 10, 2015 police officers responded to a 911 call of a mother throwing her child off a bridge over the Leigh River in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania before jumping off the bridge herself. The scene they arrived at was a grizzly sight, and morbid. The child was taken to a nearby hospital before unfortunately passing away a week later. The mother, one 19-year old Johnesha Perry, was charged with attempted homicide. This is a disgusting waste of life, and is one of many acts of Infanticide all over the globe. The official definition of Infanticide is that it is the crime or act of killing a child within a year of birth. While the case that has just been described, being obviously a horrible crime that should be punished, there is some committing …show more content…
Feminists claim that it is their right to control their body. Scientist’s state that since animals are known to induce abortions occasionally that it should be acceptable for humans as the “higher animal”. With these claims to justify the deaths of so many, one can only wonder what next? What is the next step for humanity after this. According to an article published in the science magazine Discovery in 1996, that would be infanticide. The article focused on the 25 year long research of one Dr. Sarah Hardy who witnessed, and studied the practice of infanticide with primates in India. Her observations showed that when a new male would become the leader of a group females it was his practice to kill the infant of the outed leader to allow the females to bear his children. The article then discussed the idea of this animalistic behavior becoming the model for human behavior. Moreover, it discussed the connection of the primates killing the outsted leaders child to biological fathers and step fathers. The author, Dr. Carl Zimmer continues to make parellels from the reasons these animals kill their young to human situations. The reader is left with the chilling realization that Infanticide may not be so far off in the future after all. There is a problem with the animal argument that has been presented in today’s society.

Pro-choice, pro-life, but back before this there wasn't a choice for abortion at, unless the mother was endangered by the pregnancy. The laws were strict, especially in Texas where our famous “Jane Roe” (which is not her real name), a single woman with a fetus inside her, not an actual child or human, because a fetus cannot live on it's on. The debate is that life begins at the moment of conception, at least in Texas and most places at this time, but scientifically it takes until the end of the 1 trimester to find out the sex of the fetus, but it takes the fetus until the 3rd trimester to be fully formed, besides the growth and then finally there will be a baby. This argument can be seen both ways, but recently it has been extremely…

J.D. Schraffenberger begins his piece by introducing three stories related to the overall theme of the essay about harming babies. His first story is the most morbid, discussing how until recently it was not known that babies even feel pain, and before operating on a baby, doctors would administer muscle relaxers instead of anesthesia. Such a topic is already disturbing by nature, but Schraffenberger’s choices create additional negative sentiments. From the first sentence, “newborns can only see as far as the distance between the mother’s nipples and her face,” (Schraffenberger) Schraffenberger pushes a particular image of babies.…

Anthony and Elizabeth Cady, authors of the feminist newspaper The Revolution, call abortion “child murder”. I have heard this wording before, and every time it strikes me as absurd. A fetus is not a child, since they do not have regular wave patterns. If you do not have this, you are considered brain dead and are legally defined dead, even if your heart is still beating. By these terms, a fetus cannot be murdered.…

Philosophical critique on the traditional argument against abortion Robert Bertram - UBC ID: 24675373 Phil 333 (001) - Biomedical Ethics The University of British Columbia The concept of morality in relation to abortion is a significant cause of conflict. These moral ambiguities are put into question by Pope John Paul II’s excerpts on the “unspeakable crime of abortion” with regards to the validity, committed fallacies, and the fetus’s content to the right to life (Paul II, 1995, pg. 1). Paul II's Evangelium Vitae (1995), states that aborting a fetus is the "deliberate and direct killing...of a human being in the initial phase of his or her existence". In the paragraphs to follow, this essay will reconstruct the argument, and analyze Thomson's, and Warren's objection to Paul II's statement.…

In today’s societies around the world, there is currently two factions of the highly controversial topic of abortion and whether it should be allowed or outlawed. These two factions on opposite sides are pro-choice and pro-life. Pro-choice supporters in essence believes a woman has the right to an abortion if she decides to do so. On the other hand, pro-life supporters believe the fetus is its own human being and has the right to live, thus an abortion cannot be performed on the woman. Judith Jarvis Thomson, a philosophy professor supports the right to an abortion in her paper, “A defense of Abortion” (186).…

Evidence in Judaism and Christianity While we also find discrimination in the treatment of women within the religions of Judaism and Christianity, there were safeguards in both practices to prevent social acceptance of infanticide by its people. The Jews were clearly against the taking of any human life, and generally forbade the killing of any newborn. Each life was a gift of God and only the Holy Father could extinguish its flame. [15] Because of these facts, infanticide was rare and never socially accepted by the Jews.…

In most societies, people will tend to define “good” as whatever brings pleasure and happiness and “bad” as whatever is burdening or distressing.
