Willa Cather was an inspiration to all women writers. It took great courage to be a published author as a female during the time period. Her novel shows the reader that the woman shouldn’t be confined to the house and the man confined to work. However, her family is struggling just like hers did when she was a child. This pattern could be represented to show that Antonia might kill herself like her father, or to represent that Antonia was stronger than her father, even though she is a female. I think this is to prove that women are strong and resilient, because that is one of the themes of the novel.
I think Antonia went to the town dances for both enjoyment and to prove a point. Antonia worked really hard, so going to the dances was something fun to do to escape her grueling work life. Antonia was also told that she mustn’t return to the dances by her employer. She continued to attend them to show her individuality and that she doesn’t belong to
