Various super hero movies and shows are made each year that millions of people watch. They play a major role in our society not just as a sort of entertainment, but also as a way to provide us with an ideal image of a person. In society today, superheroes represent the concept of success, valor, and courage. These movies and shows constantly impact the viewers thoughts and even to the point where people may relate to them. The show I will be focusing on, in particular, will be one of my favorite shows from my childhood, Justice League Unlimited. Ultimately, this show incorporates many aspects from society but also portrays the superhero as being an idealized person. One of the main concepts that is present in Justice League Unlimited is …show more content…
Feminism aims to advocate women 's rights and aim for social, economic, and political equality. At times however, men may be put down in the process to achieve feminist goals. For instance, in the episode called “Fury” an Amazonian character named Aresia gathers a group of villains, who are either female or have no gender at all, to kill out the world 's male population. She attempts to seek revenge on the male soldiers that did harm to her during war. In this instance, a type of feminist role is presented. We see very specific hatred toward men who are also being stereotyped as the ones who typically fight wars. It depicts a feminist perspective where a female attempts to assert power and obtain a sort of equality by seeking revenge on those that have done harm to her. Also, another detail in Justice League Unlimited that reinforces the concept of feminism is the island from which Aresia and Wonder Woman, a major character, is from. Their island called Themyscira, is entirely female populated. No male can enter the island and those that do are exiled to Tartarus, or hell. The presentation of feminism in Justice League Unlimited mirrors certain aspects of society such as backlash toward the disadvantages women face in society. An article by UKFeminista mentions “Women are under-represented in the creation of news. Only 22.6% of reporters on national daily newspapers in the UK being women.” (16.3) In this show, the idea of under-representation of women is challenged by making one of the main characters female. It is an implicit detail, however, it definitely impacts the viewers, such as females, and is yet another way in Justice League Unlimited portrays sociological

The underrepresentation of women in the media shows the limitation of freedom they are allowed to get, it targets the entire population of females, and there is no direct cause of this oppression. In this case, men are the ones who receive a group-based benefit because it makes them feel “good” or superior. According to Alison Bailey, “privileges are unearned advantages that are conferred systematically due to one’s being identified as a member of a particular social group” (Privilege, Slide #9). Since men have always been viewed as a dominant figure, they are the ones who benefit from the oppression of women in the media. The negative of a microscopic perspective when it comes to oppression and privilege is that a microscopic view tries to directly find the individual causing the harm whereas oppression and privilege are systematic; there is no single direct cause.…

The authors’ depiction of the treatment of women is not pretty, it is not dressed up and made to look softer than it truly is. The world is not as innocent as it wishes to pretend women are. These idolized, ideal versions of women are horrible standards for fictional characters to internalize, which is why the fact that these icons are not exclusive to fiction is so horrifying. This phenomenon has continued for too long; it is time for everyone, not just groups of women that are few are far between, to stand up and put a stop to…

The book Feminism for Everybody by the author Bell Hooks gives a clear idea to the reader about what feminism is, the history of the feminist movement, and what people think of feminism. The way the author has written this books gives the readers a different perspective on the feminist theory. What feminism? To answer this question, we must first establish a commonality in language: namely, what is feminism? Feminism could be defined as a person who supports females, or as a movement that would end sexism, and oppression.…

“The Pro-Social Mission” If you think about what a superhero means to you, many answers may fly around like bravery, strength, or power. Very rarely do you ever hear about what exactly makes a superhero, super. In my opinion, I believe it is this pro-social mission that keeps them going on the never ending battle against the fight with evil. A hero can have as many powers or identities that they want to have, but the most important component of their being is that they have a specific goal in mind that will work for the greater good of not only the world, but the entire universe. These other two qualities, power and identity just reinforce who the superhero is.…

The moral philosophy of feminism is a big part of today's world socially. Women feel that they are not treated the same as men on a social level considering that men do not receive the same consequences that women do when they do not accept their traditional gender role. In “Feminist Criticism” an article by Lois Tyson from 2006, Tyson talks about what traditional gender roles are in today's society. She compares the ways in which men and women are seen in society and how women can be seen as “bad girls” meaning they don't accept their gender role. The traditional roles are seen as girls are emotional and weak while men are strong and rational.…

Women in society have been shaped into the ideal Barbie dolls, which has not only raised males expectations but has also mentally effected females self-esteems. Females have not only been targeted for their physique and social do’s and don’ts, but they have also been targeted towards their rights and freedom. Many riots have occurred in order for females and males to be treated equally and respectfully that resulted with the creation of the Feminist group. At first, Feminist consisted of only females, though males and females have recently begun to team together in order to fight for the equal rights between the genders. Unlike men, women have been exposed to many priorities and have had their lives shaped and restricted for them.…
