After realizing that Mariam is one of the protagonist in the story “A Thousand Splendid Suns” it shows that there is more to her than what we read about. So that means I will be using chapters 3, 1, 11and 14. Then I will compare “How to Read Literature” by using chapter 3 “Nice to eat you: Act of Vampires”. In chapter 3 “Nice to eat you: Acts of Vampires” in “A Thousand Splendid Suns” can show the relationship and how Mariam can be related. Chapter 3 is about a person violates a women in a sexually way. In this chapter Vampirism represents “Selfishness and refusal to give respect to others and placing our beliefs above other’s needs. In chapter 11 in “A Thousand Splendid Suns” we read about how Mariam’s virginity was taken by a cruel vampire.

She is trying to get used to the city and try new things and the same thing happens when she comes home. Now since Mariam and Rasheed are married he felt that it was alright to do such a terrible thing to her. As this was happening Mariam was whining and trying to escape as Rasheed was getting on top of her. In chapter 14 in “She’s A Crist Figure, Too” it talks about how the main characters in stories are godly or like a Christ figure. In this chapter you can find many ways that it describes Mariam as a Christ figure. In the text you can find things like, “In agony, very forgiving, came to redeem an unworthy world”. Also when reading the chapter you can see why she is always living in agony is because Rasheed causes her to and makes her feel like she’s not worth anything. She also sacrifices a lot just like when she was working in the corner of the room by herself sacrificing the baby and not on purpose. In conclusion, Mariam has gone through a lot in her life from positive to negative things. Even after Rasheed the Vampire sexually assaulted her and may have changed the way she lives her life now in the things she does. She was someone who wanted to work and loved life and she can be analyzed in many different viewpoints in her
