The feminist movement started in the United States by Alice Paul. Feminism was not founded until the 20th century, it is defined to be “the theory of the political and social equality of the sexes.” The feminist movement was a social and political movement that fought to establish equality for women. In the early 20th Century suffrage was still an issue. Therefore, women began participating more in public. This was the beginning for women to have the ability to become activists, writers, artists and workers, etc. The feminist movement is a milestone in the American history. The “Modern Lear” helps one understand how feminism can be used to accommodate the imbalance of power. Throw the usage of Cordelia being compared to the labor union. The story King Lear is about a king who puts his daughters through a test, asking each to tell him how much she loves him. The two older girls give their father flattering answers. But Cordelia, Lear’s youngest and favorite daughter, says that she has no words to describe how much she loves her father. Lear gets upset and disowns Cordelia. Later on when Cordelia leaves he things that his daughter has betrayed him and goes insane. Throw this story one can understand that King Lear had made a big mistake telling his daughters to compare their love for him with something.
