Feminism is a lot of things. The main ideas it is centered around are positivity and equality. Marina Voron, a therapist, states, “‘I believe feminism is about equality, sex-positivity, body-positivity, wage equality and opportunity… for everyone regardless of their gender’” (Defining Feminism for What it Really is). Feminists do not hate men. The people hated by feminists are people who think women are inferior, simply because of their gender. It is not saying that women are better, but that everyone is equal. Feminism is not men being seen as better than women or vice versa. Prachi Gangwani in “Here’s Everything that Feminism ISN’T”, states the double standard of if men sleep with many women, their friends think it’s cool and they get praised for it, while it’s the complete opposite reaction for women, and they get put down. Feminism isn’t men being controlling to women. This message comes across in the song “You Don’t Own Me” by Lesley Gore as she says “don't tell me what to do and don't tell me what to say.” She is mentioning the common issue of a man thinking he is superior to a woman, and therefore becomes something she no longer would like to be involved in and is standing up for herself.
