I am a feminist. These days this word has been misconstrued to the false belief that it means that one believes that females are superior to men. Often times i’ve noticed men and even sometimes women getting upset when one defines themselves as a feminist because of this false belief. Some people who are feminist do take it too far but this is not the core values of what it is. Feminism is defined as the advocacy of women 's rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men. Most people follow this belief, a majority of feminists are not just advocating for better conditions for themselves, feminism is about helping and supporting women all over the world and trying to make things better for future generations. I am a feminist because gender roles are still so prominent and encouraged in American society even though we claim to be a “progressive” society. Americans are shying farther and farther away from these stereotypes but yet you still see them in movies, commercials etc. It’s not just america that is the issue, other countries have laws and have a society based around strict gender roles. In order to become a more progressive world we have to break these barriers that we’re all so obsessed with putting up, they have detrimental effects on people 's lives. I live in an unconventional household my mother is the “breadwinner” and my father is a stay-at-home dad. My mother is the biggest influence in my life, she has had to fight 10 times harder…
