Feminism And Gender Equality: Empowering Women

Feminism is necessary to achieve not superiority, but gender equality and eliminate the stigma and prejudice that is automatically inflicted on someone who identifies as a female. Feminism is not about women being greater or better than men, but about us being equal in the world and creating social justice for the female gender. We need feminism to achieve the equality that we so long for while empowering women to the point of equality without the systematic oppression and overpowering of men. Empowering women does not require the overpowering of men, and that is not what feminism aims for, the mere fact that that is the first thing thought of when it is said that we need feminism, is another reason as to why we need feminism. Some workplaces, like those in Kansas City, require women to wear heels to work, but they do not require men to do the same. Career experts have advised women not to report sexual harassment in the workplace. Shouldn’t we take the bullets out of the gun rather than shoot at a bulletproof vest? Women are hired based on their looks and can also be fired based on their looks. A woman’s looks are viewed as more important than their ability to perform the job at hand. A woman’s appearance overrides most other qualifications she may have when entering a workplace. A women has her own right to do what she so chooses to with her body, whether that be dress it how she pleases, or to do with men as men do to women when they are called a “player”. Women are taught from a young age that how they dress is more important that their education. From the 5th grade on, young girls are taught that the way they dress says more about them than anything else they could do or have a say in. We are taught not to dress in the very clothing sold in our malls and shops, because it has been deemed “inappropriate” due to the fact that men cannot handle themselves when exposed to a woman’s shoulder blade or thigh. Women are told not to dress in a way that could attract men, rather than teaching men not to rape. This goes back to sexual harassment in the workplace, women are held responsible for the actions of men based on the women’s appearance that has nothing to do with any other person. Women are told that they are “asking for it” if they are wearing an outfit men are attracted to. Nobody is asking for it. If they were, it would not be called
