Feminism is necessary to achieve not superiority, but gender equality and eliminate the stigma and prejudice that is automatically inflicted on someone who identifies as a female. Feminism is not about women being greater or better than men, but about us being equal in the world and creating social justice for the female gender. We need feminism to achieve the equality that we so long for while empowering women to the point of equality without the systematic oppression and overpowering of men. Empowering women does not require the overpowering of men, and that is not what feminism aims for, the mere fact that that is the first thing thought of when it is said that we need feminism, is another reason as to why we need feminism. Some workplaces, like those in Kansas City, require women to wear heels to work, but they do not require men to do the same. Career experts have advised women not to report sexual harassment in the workplace. Shouldn’t we take the bullets out of the gun rather than shoot at a bulletproof vest? Women are hired based on their looks and can also be fired based on their looks. A woman’s looks are viewed as more important than their ability to perform the job at hand. A woman’s appearance overrides most other qualifications she may have when entering a workplace. As we grow older we realize just how unfair the views of these things are. From the size of the ring used to ask us to change our identity for the rest of our lives, to us being crazy if we say no, marriage is just another form of how unfair the world is with their views of women and how we should be living our life. Women are taught to be bribed with a rock on our ring finger to change our identity for the rest of our life. We are asked to change our last name to take on the one of the man, we are asked to bear the man’s children and then to stay at home and care for the children. Women who say that they don’t want to marry are looked at as lesser people because they do not wish to change who they are as a person for a man. We are asked to justify our decision constantly if we go against what society believes we should do, and when we do justify, our reasons are never good
