The idea of deep ecology emphasizes that human beings are only part of the ecology of the planet and through understanding their role with the whole, we can understand the rest of the ecology. The ecofeminism criticism of deep ecology is deep ecology’s anthropocentric thinking about human-nature relationships. The dualism of human versus nature is one that revolves around male-centered thinking. Deep ecologist fails to see how dualism historically fails to take into account the connotative domination of man over women and nature. This is part of the conceptual framework that is in ecofeminism: oppositional and mutually exclusive value dualisms. The human self, is only a small part of the entire holistic Self. It is similar to the ecofeminism due to a lack of world’s women in human rights, liberties, and education, whereas many men have the rights, liberties, and access to education. From this man will and can only reach the holistic self and never the woman, who remains a part of the human self, making the view of self-holistic false. The value of ecofeminism compared to deep ecology is that it takes into account dualism and hierarchlism. The patriarchal classification system will always lead to the downfall and destruction of Earth and its many natural resources. When deep ecologists finally acknowledges and realize the role that dualism and patriarchal system play in deep ecology, then they will discover a newer and deeper meaning to deep ecology.
