With closer inspection, on the bottom right hand corner of the video two logos are spinning, interchangeably. One being the Huffington post logo, the other says NowThis with the letters N and T in capital lettering. NowThis is a media company that spreads current news via social media and online platforms like Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram etc. This feminism video is a successful collaboration between Huffington Post and NowThis, because it did circulate to a woman’s (me) Facebook page through solely online sharing. More specifically, women who need to better their understanding feminism as a whole. The two women in the video talk about celebrities Shailene Woodley, Meryl Streep and Marion Cotillard who have recently claimed they’re not feminists. They then go on to talk about a group called “Women Against Feminism”, whose group name says it all. These are specific examples that show that many people, including women have the definition skewed in some way. As exclaimed in the video, the core of feminism is equality between the sexes within society, the economy and politic. If this definition was better understood more women would declare themselves as feminists, instead of dismantling the movement due to faulty information. A major strength of this video is it’s factual basis or as Habermas would say its rational communication. It includes two women, one of colour while the other is white who use facts like “men are not systematically oppressed based on their gender” to get the point across that feminism is not complicated, it simply pushes for equality (HuffPost Women, 2015). The rational thoughts that are communicated are what brings such strength to this video. It is a compilation of simple yet telling facts based in on our current society.
