The reading that I will respond this week is “Feminist Media Studies” by Mary Celeste Kearney. The reading focuses on production and promotion of A&E’s Rollergirls, a US docu-soap featuring the Texas Roller Derby Lonestar Rollergirls. It focuses on representation of feminine athleticism in Rollergirls as well as production and promotion elements of the show. The show is basically targeting male audience, since they promote the show as hot babes. It has nothing relate to the show and it focuses on small number of women. The uniform worned by the skaters are sexualize, such as wearing a very short skirt, etc. This proves that their main audience is male.
