Just in the past year there were 685 targeted female murders there. Femicides are becoming more and more brutal and at the same time the reactions are staying the same, very little importance is given to these cases through out Latin America.. According to a report by the Small Arms Survey more than half of the 25 countries with the highest femicide rates are in the Americas. In Colombia 1 woman is killed every other day by gender related violence. In Argentina, the number is closer to 1 a day. In Brazil, 15 women a day are victims of femicide. An even more shocking matter is that less than 2 percent of those investigated cases led to sentencing.. But this didn't just happen in Mexico, it happens all over Latin America. Most Latin American countries have specific laws set aside to deal with femicides but as the statistics stated, majority of the time the authorities disregard these specific laws. There have been cases were the evidence couldn’t be any more obvious yet the authoritites choose to look the other way. Such as in the case of 24-year-old Nadia Alejandra Muciño who was found dead in her home with a rope and an electrical cord tied around her throat. All the evidence pointed to murder via strangulation, and there had been a documented record of of domestic violence, local authorities declared Mucino's death a suicide. This specific case occurred in the outsides of Mexico’s capital in a very poor area which is why this case most likely didn't receive the attention and the care it very much needed.
