Most of the stereotype is used in a metaphoric way. This adds inner meanings to what is narrated in both the poem and story. The poem carries more metaphoric words than the story. Yet, they both project stereotypical occurrences about females. Stereotypes is generally not morally acceptable. Female stereotypes are in varieties. Words like “A woman’s place is in the kitchen” or “Female education is useless” are examples of stereotypes that people directs towards women. In the poem “Adam and Eve” the narrator uses a metaphor that is stereotypical when translated. She says “Why do you have to leave? I know, it’s cuz you think you’re Adam and you think I’m Eve.” (Difranco 1255). When translated, the quote is saying the man feels superior and think she is inferior. They belief women should be obtained like a possession. How can they satisfy both wives at once? There will always be someone getting hurt among the women. The man cannot be there for them at once. If the wives live together, there will be jealousy, envy, and hatred. Etc. These women would act on their emotion and do something drastic. Why do women keep getting hurt emotionally? One of the answer to this question is religion and culture. For example, the religious belief of Islam is that a man can marry as many wives as possible, but he must treat them equally. Also, in the Yoruba tribe of Nigeria. The king known as Oba can marry as many wives as he chooses. However, he must treat them equally. According to logic, facts and evidence, someone cannot completely treat two individuals equally. One person’s emotions will be hurt sometimes. It is just like saying “I treat my children equally.” It is not possible. Sometimes a parent can afford to buy their son a shoe because it is on sale. If the parent cannot afford to buy their daughter’s shoe at that moment, they would have to buy their son’s shoe anyway. The little girl would feel cheated.
