BACKGROUND OF THE PERPETRATOR: Born on December 27, 1957 in Hidalgo, a rural area of Mexico, Juana Barraza lived in an extremely poor neighborhood with only her mother, step brother and step sister. Barraza's mother was a maid, but also a heavy alcoholic abuser who often traded her daughter to be sexually abused so she can get alcohol. Barraza had to also play the mother role, she took care of her younger siblings, she never went to school and was not allowed to leave the house. Her mother abused her both verbally and physically. Barraza reports that when she was around 12 years old, her mother gave her off to an unfamiliar man for three beers, she was raped and sexually assaulted as she had lived with this man for 15 months. She later had a son from outside the abusive relationship. Her wrestling name was The Silent Lady (La Dama Del Silencio). When asked about her name, Barraza responded with, "I have always been a quiet person, and I only speak when spoken to". She had been a wrestler for 13 years and then became an organizer of wrestling competitions (Ostrosky-Solís, 2008).
I chose this person to be my research paper because I have never heard of this female serial killer and I believe the points of view regarding the different theories will be a very interesting take.
