Many people believe pedophiles to be scary old men lurking behind bushes but that's not always the case. Most of the time those who offend, offend family members. DSM-IV define
Pedophilia as recurrent sexually arousing fantasies, impulsive desires, or behaviors involving sexual acts with a child and that occur over a period of at least six months. (Neuroanthropology,

Statistics state that a higher percentage of male pedophiles are homosexual or bisexual, attraction to both sexes. Also, a common misjudgment of pedophiles; they are all male. Although rare it is to have cases of female pedophilia, it is in fact possible. Females who exhibit pedophilia are most common like to have problems with psychiatric disorders or substance abuse problems. Although they may have the same.DSM-IV branstetter3 criteria of male pedophiles male offenders do not normally express these sort of disorders. There is also a higher percentage of female child abusers compared to male pedophiles.
A controversial topic, many psychologists and psychiatrists have studied pedophiles and what came to light is this; many pedophiles have comorbidities, which is basically that they have been diagnosed with more than one disease or condition. Most male pedophiles have pre-existing psychiatric disorders. In some cases the disorder can be so extreme it overshadows the causation for these disorders. The thinking behind these researchers upon this discovery is “do we continue to classify pedophilia as a separate disorder?” or “do we label it is a sexual orientation?”.

In my opinion it could be labeled as either a disorder or sexual orientation. However, disorder has a negative connotation and depending on your mind set so does sexual orientation. Sexual orientation if we go by google definition, is considered what gender you prefer, not age. If we go by the definition of some one in today’s society- “sexual orientation is the way that someone feels inside about their connection about other people, it’s a personal feeling that they are not obligated to share with anybody” (michaela reason). Although michaela feels it is immoral to be a pedophile, that it is unfair to label pedophilia as sexual orientation because she feels it is not the same.
“it’s is bullshit to say that someone like me who feels attracted to a consenting female can be put on the same level as a 40 year old man who wants to say that it is ok for him to touch kids becase thats his sexual orientation”. In her first quote it sounds like she would be leaning more toward labeling it as sexual orientation by saying that sexual orientation is based on feelings and branstetter4 connection towards a person without feeling obligated to share these feelings with anyone

There are many other typologies for female sex…

ntroduction S ex offenders have received considerable attention in recent years from both policymakers and the public. This is due at least in part to the profound impact that sex crimes have on victims and the larger community. While most perpetrators of sex crimes are adults, a significant percentage of sexual offenders are under age 18. Given the prevalence of sexual offending by juveniles, and the potential links between sexually abusive behavior during adolescence or childhood and sexual offending later in life, therapeutic interventions for juveniles have become a staple of sex offender management practice in jurisdictions across the country. Indeed, the number of treatment programs for juveniles who commit a sexual offense has increased…

When conducting social research sociologists know that observing a social phenomenon means studying a group of individuals’ personal attitudes and beliefs which are reflected through social behavior. With this understanding, it is possible to say that people in any given society are ultimately responsible for building social norms (Festinger, 1954). A very personal yet social aspect in society is sexuality. There is ample amount of research done on the topic, but when looking at it through a social lens, sexual behaviors and attitudes can become difficult to measure. Regardless of difficulty, however, many sociologists have studied the trends that fall into the category of sexuality as a social phenomenon (Blumstein, 1978).…

The first of which is that pedophilia is a mental disease rather that some criminal decision. The passage “The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders defines pedophilia as an intense and recurrent sexual interest in prepubescent children, and a disorder if it causes a person ‘marked distress or interpersonal difficulty’ or if the person acts on his interests,” shows that this is actually a mental illness and not a choice. Pedophiles all around the world are being treated poorly just because of a disease they have. They are treated so poorly that they could be prohibited from different types of job opportunities and even educational opportunities. An example given in the article is about HIV and AIDS.…
