When most people think of circumcision, they typically think of males; however, it is just as prevalent in females, who actually end up suffering from this event. Female circumcision is a very serious problem that most people appear to be completely ignorant of. It affects females in the majority of countries across the world, including the United States. Females are facing this horrific event in their lives not knowing just how bad the consequences will be; some do it willingly and others are merely forced to do it. There are four different types of female circumcision, and they affect females of nearly all ages, beginning as early as three years old. Although female circumcision is a terrible thing, there are many cultural beliefs as to why to be circumcised, including the belief that it is a key role for female adolescents to become a woman.
