Reform of the welfare program has been an important issue in the public’s eye for many years. On page 409 of the text book, Bill Clinton campaigned he would change welfare and end the frustrations many people felt towards the underprivileged and in 1996, President Clinton signed the personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act (PRWORA). According to welfareinfo.org one of the major changes to the benefits was the Welfare-to-Work initiative; this was a program requiring people who received financial help to work at a minimum of twenty hours a week. (Welfare Reform - Social Welfare Change, 2015) This act helped millions of dependent Americans become independent from the government and taught them how to provide for themselves and their family through hard work. Another change that Clinton made was the increase to the earned income tax credit (EITC) the text book expresses that this program helped supply families of three or more with an income of $49,078 or less with extra financial support after they filed their income taxes at the end of each year.
