Felony Comments Since the early seventies technology has evolved from computers that take up entire rooms to computers that fit in your pocket. With these technological advances communication has become more accessible than ever. People can converse over text messages, email, or phone calls without even being in the same country. An arising problem with this ease of communication is the use of digital media to harass others, more commonly known as cyberbullying. Cyberbullying is most commonly done by teens to harass classmates or acquaintances. This form of bullying is gaining national attention as more and more teens commit suicide or self-harm in result of being cyberbullied. In efforts to stop cyberbullying state legislature are trying to pass anti-bullying laws along with efforts by the school to punish the bullies themselves. In …show more content…
Punishment can be carried out by methods of the parent of the bully and the school officials. A brief suspension of the troubled student along with trying to inform the student of the effect they are having on their victims is the proper way to handle cases of cyberbullying. Troubled students need correction from their peers and their elders, tossing them into the justice system is not the answer. More programs need to be set up just as DASA in New York, these types of programs aid in helping the bully get counselling or education in civility. Victims of cyberbullying are often overlooked as well. Often times parents will even punish the victim by taking away access to electronics to try and prevent them from being bullied. Children who fall into part of being bullied need to be told how to react and what to do if the situation arises once more. Parents can tell their children things such as: not retaliating to bullies, notifying school officials, and ignoring the bullying until someone else can step
