Feeling Good Song Analysis

Being covered by a multitude of artists in different genres, the song “Feeling Good” has become a staple cover in the music industry. “Feeling Good” was written by two British writers Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse. The song was written for a musical called The Roar of the Greasepaint-The Smell of the Crowd in 1965. This musical is about a troubled society, and amongst this society, an unusual trio comes together to proved hope to their world's. In the play, the song was sung by Gilbert Price, who played an African-American who was being abused. This authentic version posses a jazzy and old feel to it and is all about hope. This was his song of hope, and this song has given others hope. There have been numerous covers of this song and each version is a bit different. The most popular and outstanding covers of “Feeling Good” are done by Avicii, Muse, and Michael Bublé.

They released this dark remake in 2010. The band Muse give this song a brand new sound. They provide this authentic song with rock and punk feel but is also extremely moving because of the lead singer Matt Bellamy’s powerfully unnatural voice. They achieve this tone and melody with the use of electric guitars and, at one point, a megaphone. Compared to the Avicii remake, Muse completely changed the tone of the songs, whereas Avicii made sure to keep some sounds of the original song by Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse.
