Feeling Emotion: Aristotelian Analysis of Macbeth There are many places of peripety in the play, Macbeth where fear is replaced by pity, but three stood out to me. The first one is when Macbeth was told by the witches that he cannot be killed by a man born of a woman’s womb, then realizes that he will be killed by a man born by cesarean section. The second is when Macbeth is tormented by killing King Duncan then has no remorse when he learns of his wife’s death, however he does show pity on himself. The last one is when Macbeth orders the murders of the wife and children of Macduff, then later learns that his own wife committed suicide. The lesson I learned through the peripety is that what you give out, will come back. Everything Macbeth did in Tyranny, came back and caused his demise. The plot is arranged around battle. In the very beginning, Lady Macbeth is full of pride and arrogance and talks to Macbeth about his role of becoming King. They believe he deserves it because of all that he has done to protect the people. Another example of hubris is when Macbeth as king hires murderers to kill Banquo, but wants to keep his name clear because of his stature with his friends he shares with Banquo. He is much more concerned with opinions of others than he is of committing murder. Macbeth’s fatal flaw was his Greed. He wanted to keep hi s royalty, and asked the witches what his future holds.
