It is difficult in centers, as small as the researcher observed, to sustain themselves with an ever growing animal population. It is important to note that some animals are euthanized because they suffer from a severe condition. The results yield that people volunteer in adoption centers because they try to save as many lives as they can. The final question the researcher asked is whether or not they felt that volunteering actually had an impact on the community. All of the participants said yes. According to one participant, "it only takes one person to make a difference" (personal communication 2016). The results determined that people not only feel a sense of emotional satisfaction when they volunteer, but feel it actually makes an impact.
