Feedback: Improving My Writing

Decent Essays
After examining the feedback given to me on my research paper, I have considered some ways to help improve my writing. There are many different areas of a paper that need to be considered when writing. For instance, the tone, audience, grammar, ideas, and sources all are important aspects of a paper. I need to continue growing in each of these areas. When writing papers, I often times struggle with considering my audience and my tone. If I choose who my audience is and what message I want to send to my audience, then I will have a more focused paper. Having a more focused paper will allow me to refine and enhance the ideas that I want my paper to have. Also, I need to do a better job at editing my papers. I often have small mistakes that

Learning how to write the English language in an academic setting has been one of my greatest accomplishments as a scholar, despite the fact that, I am still learning new skills daily on how to improve my writing. During this summer session of ENGL101A, I have learned multiple ways to express myself through my writing. In fact, before signing up for this class, I did not know the proper way to compose an academic essay for a particular audience, and how to properly cite my sources. Nevertheless, after the short summer session, I am able to define my purpose and audience, analyze critically any piece of information, and write with proper citations and fewer grammatical errors with confidence. Through the short time of 5 weeks, I learned how to focus on my audience as well as how to define the purpose of my papers as academically as possible.…

After reading Mike Bunn’s “How to Read Like a Writer,” I revisited my directed self-placement essay while asking myself the many questions Bunn recommends to ask oneself when “reading like a writer.” In doing so, I was able to recognize the strengths and weaknesses I possess as a writer, and therefore know where I need to grow the most as a writer. One of my greatest strengths as a writer is knowing my audience and composing my writing accordingly. I am aware that when my audience is a teacher who will be reading and grading plenty of the same essays to include original ideas and arguments; it gets boring reading the same type of paper and ideas over and over. Along with my well thought out ideas and arguments, I also credit myself with the ability of using appropriate evidence from credible sources that support my claims.…

Works of writing will vary a lot based on the audience and the style of the paper. That is why it is important to adapt your writing to the specific assignment or project. Most of the time I find myself writing rhetorically on accident. Although some instances in high school I remember specific guidelines for example to not use I in papers. This is to adapt to the audience because when you are doing a research paper, the reader doesn’t care about what you think or what you believe.…

Be sure to keep your audience in mind when you write to keep them interested in you as a writer, and you should be passionate about your subject to show the audience you really care. Make sure you are not rambling about the subject, and keep in mind that your language does not have to be complex. Simplicity can reach your audience better, so make sure your eloquence is serving your ideas. Use your own words when you write instead of sounding like something you are not, as the readers will find this more enjoyable. Say what you mean like your teachers taught you, so that your readers will have clarity and understand what you are conveying.…

I have notice this before and am working on being more clear when writing but also have a balance on not over explaining that can lead me to run off topic. This is not ease for me to do but when I receive feedback from people truly telling me their opinion and not just I agreeing it helps me correct my writing style. So thank you once more for truly critiquing me and taking the time to read my journal.…

As long as I can remember, I never really liked writing, I did not like the thought of just sitting down with a pen or a laptop in front me. Maybe because I was not good at it, after reading the pages of the graphic novel I have three points that could help me improve my writing. Clearing my mind :When I have a paper to write I usually think about the length and how long is it going to take me to write the paper. And I do not spend much time thinking about the content and the quality of the paper, what I have to do on my next projects, including that paper is to simply clear my mind; Focusing on the paper itself is what I should do, not the time or the length.…

Over the course of this semester in my English 1320 class I have seen a drastic change throughout my writing style. Although I still have difficulties with a few writing tasks, I believe that I have improved significantly throughout this course. I have found that with my professor’s guidance along with my own personal editing that my grades have increased. Although it is difficult to not get caught up in simply striving for a letter grade or attaining a 4.0 grade point average, I would like to believe that my main goal was different. Of course I would love to achieve those goals as well, but overall my primary goal throughout this class was to become more relaxed and comfortable in my writings, to use new strategies and proper kinds of conventions, and to truly find a way to express my passion on these papers.…
