In Anna Quindlen's essay “School’s Out for Summer”, it recognizes the purpose to let people know, who do not know that they can get help feeding the children at home, especially in the summer. In the summer school is out, and most kids stay inside if their parents aren't home. When school is out, that means no daily meals, no breakfast or no lunch if their parents cannot afford it. People who can not afford to buy monthly amounts of food for their household shall go to food banks, who give out free food. This is not a bad thing. Many people do not realize that hunger and malnutrition is a problem that many Americans face on a daily basis. However, we as Americans need to take care of ourselves, and our fellow Americans.

“With so many households in which both parents are working, summer is often a scramble of scheduling: day camps, school programs, the Y, the community center.” Quilden have a great point. You also have to look at America has always went overseas to provide countries with food, but no other country tried to come here and help the hunger over here. “But while the Christmas holidays make for heartrending copy, summer is really ground zero in the battle to keep kids fed.” When school lunch program began in the 1970s I’m pretty sure it helped out a lot of families. Even when school is out there should be breakfast and lunch programs, and if there are, we need even more.
The problem with hunger what the United States faces may not be as dramatic as that of other countries, but this is all the more reason to find ways that truly create a solution. Hunger in America can be hard to recognize. With how the economy is now, the effects of hunger are more severe. Many Americans are relying on food stamps and private organizations to help with this crisis. We need to come together as a country and stop child hunger
