This issue has not been addressed since housing discrimination had been outlawed by the Fair Housing Act almost 50 years ago. The New York Times article How Segregation Destroys Black Wealth reported saying that “Real estate agents support segregation and deny African-Americans the opportunity to buy into high-value areas that would provide better educations for children and a greater return on their investments” Clearly, we can see how blacks are the minority faction in this situation, and are blatantly mistreated. When examining how blacks are treated versus how whites are treated the New York Times reported that “ Agents often declined to show properties to black customers who were better qualified than whites, with higher incomes, better credit scores and more savings for down payments” From this we can conclude that today, blacks are still discriminated solely by their race in surprisingly different …show more content…
Everyday activities are unfortunately tainted with racial profiling. NY Daily News covered the recent case involving a Barneys in Queens, and 18 year old Trayon Christian. Trayon purchased an expensive belt from a local Barneys using a debit card. After leaving the store he was approached by two police officers, and then arrested. The store clerk claimed it was a fake card, and questioned and that Trayon was intentionally stealing the belt. After staying in a holding cell for two hours, the police released him, and later admitted the card was valid. The store clerk had no valid reason to assume Trayon was stealing anything, and based his decision solely on race. Trayon returned the belt disgusted by the incident, and described the interaction as “Cruel and racist” (NY Daily News Article). From traffic incidents, to daily purchases, blacks are discriminated upon solely on the color of their skin. If Madison’s No. 10 article had worked, we wouldn't see such a large difference in how people are treated by race. We can conclude Madison's Federalist No. 10 has been fully successful when dealing with the African American community. Countless acts of discrimination are still wrongfully committed each day, only adding to the unfortunate problem. Though there has been large improvement since the start of American slavery, there is still a mass of evidence to support the existence of
