Since the federal government offers extra funds over to schools, they have slowly been gaining a strong role over the schools. However, the funds do not come free since schools have to follow the federal “mandates that come with the funds” (p. 247). Having strong directions set nationally might not actually help the necessities of the states. In addition, income tax is considered regressive, in other words there are done in the ability that the buyers have to pay them. There might be people that have valuable property, but have low income, which would make it more fair to people.

Just like with federal involvement, the state involvement in local control can have stifling educational consequences. For instance, it used to be that students would have to pass the AIMS test in order to be able to graduate high school. This test stresses the students and parents. However, this law has been lifted and now students only have a set requirement of credits for graduation, which the school may modify. I do not think local control is an issue in my state any longer, since students can just complete their school requirements without worrying about passing a specific test.

Having observations by school principals, vice principals and assisting principals will let people get to know more about the actual performances. Coworkers can also help in the assessment of teachers as this gives them more perspectives on how to improve teaching. I believe that students test scores do not give a complete view of the students’ performance, but only provide some means of comparison.
