Federalism and freedom of speech are both apart of the American history and date back as far as the mid 1700’s. It is important to ask the question, “What is freedom of Speech?” Freedom of Speech is a right to any citizen to express personal opinions without being harmed or punished. It is the ability to talk without censoring any information for the sake of others. We have the right to freedom of speech and it is intended for individuals to express themselves freely without government official’s criticism and/ or consequences. Over the decades, these rights have been questioned for limitations and restrictions. Beginning in the 1700’s, the Framers of the Constitution implemented new laws that effected an American’s way of living.
