Federal Student Aid Website Analysis

This is the government website for federal student aid. This website focuses mostly on the programs they offer for student grants, scholarships, loans, military aid and work-study. They help students determine if and what aid they are qualified for, how to apply for the aid and how to manage paying them back. This website also helps students explore different colleges and degree programs, realistic costs of college, and budgeting help. One of the key points in my research is the cost of attending school as an adult student. There is a lot of specific information on this website about eligibility for scholarships, grants and military aid, which usually do not have to be repaid. Since this book is designed to be a guidebook for adult students it covers topics like, balancing work and family, applying for financial assistance, best practices for studying, and struggles with online learning. All of these topics are useful for my final project. In addition, I found several bullet-point lists within the book that will be useful for explaining steps to take to reach various goals. There are also short questionnaires to help adult students identify if they fall into certain categories, like facing your fears and pinpointing learning obstacles. The article describes them as “employees who study” and “students who work.” The article examines the similarities and differences between these two different groups and looks at topics like, class attendance, financial aid, degree programs and graduation rates. This article had important information for my topic because of the discussion of costs associated with online classes. It looked at the potential savings of some online classes versus traditional classes. It pointed out that most online classes cost about as much as a traditional class, but that there are options available where the class might be cheaper. Usually this is because the class is offered through a strictly online environment, thus the student isn’t paying for campus privileges.
