The Federal Communication Commission's (FCC) proposal to regulate the rates and fees companies charge inmate's families for telephone calls has Global Tel-Link concerned. While the FCC didn't cap the commissions correctional facilities receive from inmate communication providers, they did strongly discourage companies from paying commissions. According to a PR Newswire press release, Globe Tel-Link (GTL) calls the proposal short-sighted, claiming that many small jails depend on commissions to provide inmate services. The company's CEO also says inmates and their families might experience poor quality call service with providers offering a low per-minute rate.
