In the documentary Fed Up I learned a lot about the growing epidemic with food. In the documentary it is clear that they believe that the food industry is responsible for the obesity epidemic in America. This documentary has opened my eyes to real things that have been going on that I had no clue about. For example when the United States department of Agriculture decided that school meals needed to offer fruits and vegetables to student’s everyday. This next part blew my mind; congress complied with this request and decided that two tablespoons of tomato sauce would count for their vegetable. Basically they are implying that pizza is a vegetable! That is insane; I don’t under stand why they could just actually give students a real vegetable or fruit. This made me remember all the unhealthy choices I had in my school growing up and even here at my university. The food industry is misleading schools and individuals by their advertising of the different foods. I disagreed with the topic of advertisement talked about in the film. According to the documentary advertising can easily convince one individual to do almost anything. Michelle Obama joined the food industry to limit the calorie put into foods. The food industry said they would remove 1.5 trillion calories from the market place but that only equaled to fourteen calories per day for the average person. I personally don’t think that removing the amount of calories from foods will help the epidemic at all. Again I don’t think we can blame the food industry for our bad eating habits. Unhealthy choices are not our only choice; we have other choices we can make. It is just up to us to make the right
