Can he been shown on the screen as a positive or negative Jew? Well, Chaim Rumkowski did everything in his power to keep the Jews from deportation and killings. One method he used was was to convince the Nazis about opening more factories in Lodz. This way the Jews can have work and obtain ration in exchange, and increase the production of the German war goods. The Nazis and the Jews would both get their share, but in significantly different amount and conditions. Another method he was successful in applying was asking without violence for senior citizens and young children for deportation before taking any involuntary actions. This strategy of Rumkowski was effective over the short run, but later became a forceful tactic for choosing Jews as the Nazis’ demand for more Jews increased. The Nazis were successful in “turning the leader of the communities into the executors of German policy.” (Hayes 180) In a feature film, Chaim Rumkowski can be seen as a Jew against Jews. Documentaries such as The Story of Chaim Rumkowski and the Jews of Lodz, are successful in showing the ways the Nazi handled welfare and the killings of the Jews, but a feature film would be able present better at displaying the indirect ruling of Nazis. The purpose of making a feature film on Chaim Rumkowski is to inform about the Holocaust through the use of persuasive form of film-making media. Feature films are able to manipulate the emotions of the audience more than documentaries. A feature film made on this specific issue, using Chaim Rumkowski as a medium to portray, will be more successful than a documentary film with a historical facts and photographs. Feature film are better than documentaries at manipulating and convincing the audience because of the persuasive techniques used such as the shooting style, setting, actors, music and much more. For example, the audience sees a feature film such as Schindler's List as an emotional, heartbreaking film because of its narrative, and film making techniques employed. This film on Oskar Schindler, a German businessman, who helped the Polish Jews of the Krakow Ghetto is far more interesting to watch than a documentary with still pictures voiced by a narrator going the timeline of Krakow Ghetto.
