Fear Public Speaking

Hey Anaya, how are you? After reading your post, I can say, I can completely relate to your fear of public speaking. The PSRP score I received was a 150, which is extremely high on the scale. When I have a project or presentation that includes me speaking to a class or crowd, it is frightening. Sometimes, causing me to suffering from the stutters. After noticing this about myself, I took it into my own hands to change. The best way for me to often overcome speaking publicly is to know my information, especially if that is a question and answer portion. Also, I would pretend people asking me questions about the subject contently throughout my day.

In the book An Essential Guide to Public Speaking by Quentin Schultze it goes deeper than just talking to a regular audience. It talks about being a Christian and handling public speaking. This is a great book to learn about how to be a public speaker and a Christian but not to lose your audience by talking too much about God or not enough. I have never had trouble talking in front of large groups or presenting, in fact speeches are always projects I look forward to in class. However, I still believe I could work on being more effective when delivering my speach. The two main problems I have seen wish my speaking is first, I always start talking too fast which makes it hard for the audience to understand me. Second, in school sometimes we are forced to give a presentation about a topic we are not always personally enthusiastic about. I need to improve my level of enthusiasm even when I am not interested in the topic because it effects the ability for me to convey my points to my…

To be honest I was never a good public speaker there are times I avoid public speaking there are certain fears I had such as tongue tied, forgetting my lines, the awkward silence when I try to make a joke or point and by being myself blurting out words like "stuff" or "shit" unconsciously. I know it's so unprofessional but it happened quite a few times. After speaking in public I kinda dwell on what I said something that bothered me or that was unsaid.…

For my entire life, I have been scared to speak. I was diagnosed with selective mutism when I was two years old. This disorder has made it difficult for me to communicate with anybody that I am not close to. For myself, this meant that talking to or even in the presence of my teachers was out of the question. I would refuse to speak in class and, as a result, many of my classmates thought I was weird and did not talk to me.…

I’m sitting down in my English classroom, waiting for my teacher to call me up. When I hear my name being called; a rush of panic runs through my whole body, my heart starts to race, my hands start getting sweaty, and when I opened my mouth not a single word comes out. Public speaking was a challenge because I always feared people would judge me over what I had to say and it became one of my insecurities. During my junior year in high school, I decided to take speech and debate so that I could gain the confidence to speak in front of an audience. I had participate in Redlands East High School Speech Competition where I talked about how we should not judge anyone under any circumstances, using homelessness as an example.…

Speech Anxiety A time I had experienced speech anxiety was the first time I had to give my senior project speech in front of my peers. The night before my speech I had stayed up all night writing my speech and that morning I finished my power point. Writing the speech at the last minute was not the best idea, but I was fine because my speech was about something I had passion for at the time. Decorating the power point was not all that bad either.…

I have had a speech impediment for as long as I can remember, and it has always been a point of discomfort. I used to dread public speaking and abhorred doing presentations in school, scared my classmates would mock me, or think I was peculiar for not being able to speak like everyone else. In elementary school, I attended speech therapy classes, and although it helped, the improvements were inconsequential, and my speech was still not up to par. Throughout middle school and the majority of high school, I have hated meeting new people, for fear they would deride me for the way I spoke. Conversing with anyone terrified me, even my family and friends.…

Practice makes perfect as everyone has heard this saying before. In the future, I plan on practicing my speeches more by speaking in front of a mirror over and over again to give myself the impression of what I look like when speaking in front of a group of people. Practicing in front of a mirror over and over again will also help me memorize my speech more instead of relying on my note card as often, giving me more confidence while speaking. I tend to use my note card as a comforting thing when I get nervous and forget what I am about to say. It gives me the chance to collect my thoughts and remember what I was going to say as well as staying on track of where I was going in my speech.…
