People fear being sentenced to death. This will make people fearful of repercussions, as there is a common fear of being killed. People have a natural fear of death so they will avoid committing such crimes, as it will act as a detriment. In turn this brings down the frequency of crimes punishable with the death sentence. Fear of being sentenced to death will not make people fear repercussions. There are multiple instances where people place themselves in life and death situations for thrill or for no reason at all. At that moment they are not thinking of the consequences. Thus fear of being sentenced to death will not be a determinant to crime rates punishable by the death penalty.
