Fear Is Not The Best Motivational Force Essay

Yelling, screaming, fighting, hitting, kicking, and getting in peoples face, is not be the best motivational force. Some people may not be affected by fear the same ways others may be. Also the fear that is being created may not appeal to a person’s ethics and values. Trying to scare people with imprisonment or hell won’t affect everyone because they may look at these kinds of places as a safe place to find someone to relate to. Fear is not the best motivational force because everyone is not affected by fear. For example in the television episode of “Beyond Scared Straight “Josh, a twin, and a participant in the program was not affected by the fear tactics used. Josh continued to find trouble such as drugs. He also ran away while under house arrest. (Corcoran). This shows that even after having hard core criminals trying to strike fear into him, he continued to find trouble. Also in the same episode a boy named Stephen was not affected either. Evidence of this is that even after an experience with the criminals he still continued with his wrongful behavior. Now Stephen has violated his parole and is forced to wear an ankle monitor (Corcoran). This makes it very obvious that these boys were not affected …show more content…
Evidence of this is “instead of encouraging these kids to reform the treatment may have destroyed any faith they might have had in a system meant to support them “(Feinstein 29). This shows that the kids didn’t view the system as something they could rely on after the experience. This says that they do not value it or look at in the same way as others. This is also shown in the sermon Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God when Johnathan Edwards says “in short they have no refuge, nothing to take a hold of “(42). This shows that they know that they do not care and so these things will not affect them like it would to someone who shares the same ethics and
