Louis leaves Prior as a result of his fears of disease, he displays his fear early on in Millennium Approaches, where at Sarah Ironson’s funeral he asks the Rabbi “what does the Holy Writ say about someone who abandons someone he loves at a time of great need?” (Kushner 25). Louis’s question to the Rabbi reveals that he already cannot handle what may be to come, and is already very afraid of having to potentially deal with Prior’s disease, despite the fact that Louis is aware that Prior will need him very soon. As a result of his guilt when Prior tells him “I want to see black and blue… So don’t come near me again, unless you’ve go something to show” (Kushner 221). Priors demand to see the physical pain of Louis’s guilt and fear, causes him to go out and pick a fight with Joe which leads to Louis laying on the ground telling himself “I can see blood” (Kushner 251). Louis’s acknowledgement that he can finally see blood is his attempt to redeem himself in his and Priors eyes. Therefore because of Louis’s intense fears of disease he not only suffers mentally; but also physically, making his life while dealing with this issue much worse than it needs to

Such has always been the preferred method for solving a problem, and there can be a variety of reasons for an individual to feel inclined to fight. In S. E. Hinton’s novel The Outsiders, characters explore the reasons for which they fight, and their lives are altered by the fears derived from those reasons. When Joe is offered a promotional opportunity to relocate he hesitates due to Harper’s objections, and his “obligations” and “responsibility” out of love for her (Kushner 15-16; 26; 56-57). Tension from the promotion spurs marital conflict: Joe blames her reluctance on fear of the outside world and her emotional problems; while, Harper condemns their marriage and blames her emotional problems on living with him, his secrets and lies (Kushner 27), and labels them as “pretend-happy” (Kushner 23). As Mormons, key-terms “obligation”, “responsibility”, and “love” implicitly juxtapose the politics of law and religion that epitomize the selflessness of the marriage contract, an emblem of traditional love. The Pitts’ strife, and label “pretend-happy”, reveals the paradox of the traditional marriage contract: personal repression for public persona. Likewise, after Prior confronts Louis with his terminal illness (Kushner 21), and Louis looks to theology to explain his fears and abandonment (Kushner 25) – Louis foreshadows his justification for his actions: “…it should be the questions and shape of a life, its total complexity gathered, arranged and considered, which matters in the end, not some stamp of salvation or damnation which disperses all complexity in some unsatisfying little decision – the balancing of the scales……

Throughout the book Angels in America, Tony Kushner uses the truth to portray how ignorance and innocence can worsen situations that are unwanted, while cognizance may not fully solve the problem, it may help this person come to a realization of what needs to happen, and ultimately end or move on from that current situation. In this quote about the truth, Prior specifically does not say that the truth always fucks you, he states that the truth “mostly” fucks you. The word “always” means, at all times; on all occasions, and the word “mostly” is defined by: as regards the greater part or number. The reason Prior uses the word mostly is because Prior realizes that although the truth may well “fuck” people at first, by comparing the definitions…
