Fear In Tiger Eyes

As said by Judy Blume in her book Tiger Eyes, “Each of us must confront our own fears, must come face to face with them. How we handle our fears will determine where we go with the rest of our lives. To experience adventure or to be limited by the fear of it." Fear is a huge component that inhibits people from leaving their comfort zones and accepting the call of adventure. While there are some people who are daring enough to accept this call with open arms, most people choose to send adventure straight to voicemail. The reason some do this is that their fear of failure, danger, humiliation, and the unknown, get in the way of them living life to the fullest. The evidence for this can be found in Gaiman (2006), Cox (2008), along with my experience …show more content…
Vic, a character in this short story says to Enn, “They’re just girls, they don’t come from another planet.” (para. 16). Vic says this to Enn because Enn is frightened of the unknown, in this case, girls. He doesn’t understand them and why they look so much older than they actually are. He doesn’t even begin to know how to hold a conversation with them. (para. 19) Fear of the unknown is one of the greatest fears that stop people from stepping out of their comfort zone. Do you think Lynne Cox would hold the abundance of records she has if she was too frightened of swimming in freezing cold water? Do you think Enn would have gotten the confidence to talk to girls if he had never put himself in a different situation? People should care about confronting their fears and answering the call of adventure, because without doing so they will “live” in constant fear and never actually live the best life they

Imagine this. You’re paralyzed, unable to do anything the way you want; unable to achieve new goals, to try new things, or to simply live your life the way you want to because you are restricted. Many times we have a similar reaction to fear. Fear can motivate us to an extent, if used correctly and in small amounts. The book the places that scare you by Pema Chodron was very interesting. The title itself Caught my attention right away, but what really got me to read this book is that the author is a Buddhist nun, so she will not talk about religion or tell you what is right or what wrong. Before I read this book I thought the book was going to be about metal disorders only because of the title. I was completely wrong, this book is for all types of people who desire to face our fears in life with an open heart.…

Fear, to a great extent, is born of a story we tell ourselves, and so i chose to tell myself a different story from the ones women are told I decided I was safe. I was strong. I was brave.
