Fear is a huge reason that they are making up the beast with because they are scared that they will not have anyone to control one of them if they go off on a rampage. The first ones to start to believe in the "beast" are the little ones because they still have the most imagination and are still scared of things like monsters and demons. Again as I said it was very scary and it took place during WWII and their plane was shot down. In document C it says that it took place during a world war and that the British forces were a big part of the war. In document D it states that they seen a few lights in the sky at night that moved fast or winked and that a sign came from grown ups but no body was awake to see it. That means that they missed their only shot at rescue. They also saw the fighter pilot go down in his parachute and thought that he was the beast and that scared them even more. They also heard faint popping noises from the fight ten miles above. And Sam and Eric saw the parachute dragging behind the person and got Ralph because they were scared and said they saw the beast.
