After reading and analyzing this epic poem, I am satisfied that this is a first in horror. This is because the story contains supernatural beings as well as terrifying events. Thus, causing fear, anxiety, and suspense among other elements of a first horror story. To start with, the poem starts by instilling fear when describing the kind of a person Enkidu was. As the story is narrated by the poet, there is a lot of fear, suspense, and mystery since the story involves battles with horrific beings with dire circumstances. A horror story insinuates to instill the fear to the reader something which is achieved by the author of “The Epic of Gilgamesh”. The element of suspense which is another common trait in a horror story is achieved in this epic poem as a mortal man decides to engage forces of evil in mortal combat.
