Fbx Case Study

FBCx, known scientifically as alpha-cyclodextrin (-CD) is a pill containing a fat eating fiber. It has been marketed as an effective weight loss tool because the dietary fiber -CD has been deemed a powerful fat burning agent. By binding onto bad fats, it claims to be capable of eliminating nine times its weight in fat. In terms of calories, FBCx can remove up to five-hundred calories of fat per day. Chiefly because of its potentially high fat burning capabilities, it has been recommended that the pill be taken following the consumption of large, unhealthy meals. By consuming the recommended dose of two grams, the consumer can reverse the harmful effects of fat by excreting it out of the body. Therefore, on his show, Dr. Oz appropriately targeted those individuals carrying historical fat; a term he defined as tangible fat that has been present longer than most friendships. More specifically, the people he brought up onto the stage to discuss the benefits of FBCx were mothers of multiple children. Therefore, the intended audience for FBCx were mothers who have put on and subsequently, kept the excess weight gained during childbirth. By arming themselves with FBCx, Dr. Oz ensured that these mothers would be adequately equipped to be victorious over their weight loss …show more content…
The study has proven that FBCx induces weight loss. Despite this finding, the research does not support Dr. Oz’s absurd claims of FBCx being a potent fat shedding drug. FBCx is portrayed as a powerful drug that nullifies the harmful effects induced by unhealthy foods by preventing fat absorption. Consequently, the consumer can supposedly burn, or excrete up to 500 calories per day providing the basis for weight loss. Results from studies done on FBCx are being manipulated into making the nutritional supplement more attractive to viewers. FBCx primarily functions to lower total cholesterol levels. Although there is weight loss, it occurs at a rate which is insignificant when compared to alternative methods. Therefore, FBCx should not be marketed as a powerful weight loss solution, but instead a drug to manage and reduce cholesterol levels. Information on both the level of weight loss coupled with its capability of attenuating cholesterol levels should be included in future

The documentary, “The Weight of the Nation,” is a series that is broken into four parts regarding the risks of obesity, the choices that contribute to obesity, the childhood obesity epidemic, and the challenges that our society faces in treating and preventing obesity and all of its related illnesses. I think it was strategic to break this documentary into separate sections because obesity is such a multifaceted issue and it impacts people of all ages and races. There are also many diseases that could be prevented if people understood how dangerous it is to be overweight or obese. The first section of the documentary is titled, “Consequences,” which is appropriate because it looks at the dangers of being overweight and the accompanying health issues. This section focuses a lot on the scientific and physiological aspects of obesity and explains some very concerning statistics.…

Although the term health disparities seem to represent a widely understood concept, its definition and exact meaning has caused much controversy. This is due to the fact that the most accepted definition of health disparities focuses on the differences that negatively and systematically affect those groups that are less advantaged and that not all differences in health status are considered to be disparities. Historically, in the United States, racial and ethnic disparities have been the primary point of discussion (Dehlendorf, 2010). The objective of this paper is to shed light onto the various types of disparities that affect Americans, specifically the minority populations and the economic cost. Heart disease is the number one cause of death…

It 's estimated that more than one-third of adults and 17 percent of children and adolescents are obese.” These numbers are alarming because of the massive amounts of health problems that obesity causes such as diabetes, Coronary artery disease, and cancer (Terrie).
