As Harry starts to dream he begins to fade off and then dies. By Hemingway saying that Harry was dreaming is basically saying that he went to sleep; which sleep is used to imply death in many cases in literature.

The similarity that comes from both Hemingway and Fitzgerald styles starts with the power single word. Both authors use single words to their advantage, and the way the author chooses the word and placement can change the entire mood of the story. For example, in The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald there is a description of Daisy that lights a spark and changes the outlook of the story. This specific description came at a time where the wild fool that is Daisy and the rich romantic were having the time of their lives after being apart for so long. Daisy had longed for him and his new wealth so much and the realization of a lost life had finally hit her.…

People do not really realise how war can take a toll on people and the environment around it. War and romance are the two main points talked about in the book. You realise how each one takes a turn on everyone and how each person is affected in the story. This story is meant to be about war but you realise that it focuses on other things, like the love between some of the couples in the story; so one sees that the story leaves its main focus a lot which is the war and talks about other things like love. For example the love story between Robert Jordan and Maria, which is the central focus in Robert Jordan's own personal story and what is mostly narrated.…

This also implies in Hemingway's belief that age impairs, but does not extinguish one's ability to be participants in their own lives. After going through such a struggle, Santiago realizes that all of his glories were in his youth, and strongly relates the power that the lions in his dreams have to his youth. It symbolizes his freedom in his youth as a link to his past but also his ultimate goal before he dies. The lions on the beach represent a place where he wants to escape, and explore once more. Dreaming about the lions each night provides Santiago with a link to his younger days, as well as the strength and idealism that are associated with youth.…

Coming into the second half of the novel, these notions of sexual undertones and inevitabilities begin to come together in certain scenes of interaction. Hemingway uses this to further expand these themes in an organic way. Everyone is inside their head; everyone is at dinner—Jake, Bill, Brett, Mike, and Robert. Mike and Robert had been in a heated dispute hours before, but now they are both acting formally—or for Mike, as formally as the alcohol will allow. Still, Jake says that this dinner reminds of certain dinners “from the war” (150).…

“He’d dreamed he was going through a grove of timber trees where a gentle drizzle was falling, and for an instant he was happy in his dream, but when awoke he felt completely spattered with bird shit” (3). “A gentle drizzle” is referring to the weather on the day of Santiago’s murder, “the weather was funereal, with a cloudy, low sky and the thick smell of still waters, and that at the moment of misfortune a thin drizzle was falling like the one Santiago Nasar had seen in his dream grove” (4). In these two quotes, we can really tell the difference in between dreams and reality. In your dreams, you are free to think what you want and to do things you would normally not do in society. It shows Santiago living a happy life when suddenly he gets murdered.…
