FATS: Fats are one of the three macronutrients of our body, in which the other two are carbohydrate and protein. The function of fat is to transport nutrients throughout the body, supply energy and essential fatty acids, insulate the body for heat and provide protection for the body from external bruising or injuries. There are three types of, two of which, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats increase the good cholesterol (HDL). The third, saturated fats, raises bad cholesterol (LDL). Fat is a concern to the human nutritional and wellness lifestyle because excess fat leads to diseases such as obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. Health recommendations are switching to healthier cooking oils such as extra virgin olive oil or coconut oil rather than hydrogenated oils and eat less of foods heavily fried in oil.
