Father Joe's first thought were to give each crew member a proper christian burial, and worked indefatigably at this task... But afterwards, not knowing who these new humans might be, that is, if they're still human, he removes the little crosses that marked each grave, and only left an odd arrangement of stones to demarcate the place for his own recognition if he may come to wander from this place. But all around him seemed everything he would need for shelter and sustenance... He would travel away, but only as an expedition to find other life forms, as the scientist instructed him to do.
