Father Engagement Research

Do you ever think about the impact of child support payments as it relates to father engagement? As we all know taking care of children financially is a necessity for their well-being. While going through this process I wanted to find out child support affect fathers as it relates to the engagement with their children. Then I wanted to dive a little deeper and explore how does feel to be ordered by an outsider to make payments towards the livelihood of your child. Many thoughts perceptions came into play when I thought about child support payments for fathers but what I began to discover was a trifle of interrelated issues that may prevent fathers from raising their children properly. The research also relied solely on the fathers to report their data no other method was used in this research study. More fathers from different ethnic & economic backgrounds should be involved in this research. Also a variety of studies should be used to gather data from fathers to gage their interactions and involvement with their children. Some studies only focused on a small group of fathers and their children who were minority from low socioeconomic levels with limited control over the mother's input. Some articles had no information that specifically stated what African American fathers thought about the child support system and the studies were done with a small group of only African American fathers and their biological sons which does not give diverse impacts. Although the research specifically identified community workers such as social workers the trainings that were offered to improve father engagement lacked evidence to tangible stats on the impact of the fathers currently receiving services. Second I would like to show the percentage of low income fathers who are impacted by child support on a variety of socio economic levels. Third I would like to explore the number of fathers who have may have been incarcerated because of child support payments. Fourth I would like to outline how fatherhood programs plan to assist fathers with engagement as it relates to their children. Fifth I would like to explore the effects of child support for fathers who struggle in the areas of employment, education and incarceration. Last I would like to explore the views of fathers and hear what they have to say on the topic of child support and being a parent. . Both approaches will
