In one of Shakespeare's most well known plays, Romeo and Juliet, there can be several phrases seen throughout writing that tell you that “fate” is at play. 1.) In the play Romeo and Juliet, the role of fate is stupendous, as it is implied in several of the situations throughout the play. It all begins with Romeo spotting Juliet, then falling head over heels at first sight, and due to the fact that their relationship was simply forbidden, it was bound to end one way or another in a black and white sort of manner. This is when things all begin to fall apart. Juliet's “death” is a fake, and Romeo discovers her, actually believing that she has truly passed away, and then he commits suicide.…

My project is a game board titled “The Test of Fate.” It is modeled after the game “Sorry!” in same aspects, but it also has a bit of a twist. When playing this game, players divide into two teams, the Montagues and the Capulets: “Two households, both alike in dignity (in fair Verona, where we lay our scene), from ancient grudge break to new mutiny,” (Prologue.1-3.7).…

Some individuals may not trust that destiny is something that honestly exists on the planet. This bit of the populace questions that there is anything that is really intended to be or expected to happen. They assume that whatever happens in their lives comes as a consequence of the choices that they make with their own through and through freedom. Others trust that whatever happens over the span of their lives is unavoidable and and laid out before them like a guide to life. Fate played a crucial role in the lover’s tragic death as Romeo and Juliet’s strong love for one another was pre-destined. Romeo and Juliet’s families were well-known in Verona for having a centuries-old grudge against one another. This makes the fact that the children from the very heart of these two feuding families accidentally meeting and fall madly in love, not just a coincidence. They were “star cross’d-lovers” who were fated to “take their li[ves]” (Prologue, Line 6).…

Fate plays a small yet important role in the tragedy because without fate, Romeo and Juliet would not have met and the story would not have happened. Prior to attending the Capulets’ dinner, Romeo knew something bad was about to occur. “Fear too early, for my mind misgives some consequence yet hanging in the stars shall bitterly begin his fearful date with this night’s revels, and expire the term of a despised life closed in my breast by some vile forfeit of untimely death” (I.iv.107-112). Fate indicates to Romeo that something bad is about to begin and will only end with his death yet he still takes a chance by attending the party. Fate foreshadows many things, but it keeps telling us that the lovers may end up dead together.…

Juliet voices her concern when she tells Romeo that, “The orchard walls are high and hard to climb, and place death considering who thou art,if any of my kinsmen find thee here.” (Rom., 2.1.63-65). It is very clear to see that Romeo and Juliet are desperate enough to risk their lives for each other, which makes it brutally obvious to why Romeo and Juliet are responsible for their own deaths. The majority of people who read Romeo and Juliet would say that fate plays a part in the blame for the dying of the two main characters. I can't help but agree with this statement, but fate didn't just decide on its own to takes these lovers…

Then with Juliet talking about her “Ill-divining soul” stating there will be something happening with the next time she will see Romeo and her stabbing herself with a knife just at the end. The last evidence found was about the friars giving the potion and the letter never got to Romeo and that caused the death of both of them. In The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare constructs a play about two star-crossed lovers and their untimely deaths. There is an abundance of reasons as to why the two lovers had to part, but the most prominent one was Romeo’s impetuousness. Romeo acts without thinking because his love for Juliet clouds his judgment. Although most of the play revolves around the concept of fate, it was Romeo and Juliet’s actions that contribute to their deaths. Many negative events lead up to the death of the two star-crossed lovers; Romeo’s banishment for killing his cousin–in-law and Juliet faking her death.…

Fate and Free Will in Romeo and Juliet By Dougal Perrers William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is a classic tragedy about two young lovers born into feuding families. The conflict of fate and free will is a recurring theme throughout the text, and Shakespeare frequently uses literary techniques to shape the direction of the story. Romeo and Juliet are ultimately responsible for their own end, but their deaths were undeniably influenced by the philosophies of their time. Shakespeare relies heavily on the Elizabethan philosophy of the ‘Chain of Being’ to explain the power of fate over free will. This is not to say Romeo and Juliet were only victims of fate, because they made choices that directly led to their deaths.…

In the prologue, it says “A pair of star-cross’d lovers take their life” (DBQ: Project, 2013), and this means that it was destined for them to die from the start and this was their fate. The prologue also says “The fearful passage of their death-mark’d love” (DBQ: Project, 2013), and this means there was meant to be deaths in the love of Romeo and Juliet. This is why Fate is the most reasonable character to blame for the deaths. The next character to blame for their deaths is Love. Romeo and Juliet essay The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet is one of William Shakespeare's most beloved and performed plays. There is a debate to be had about why the star crossed lovers reach their untimely ends and if and how it could have been prevented. The two prominent arguments are that the characters are controlled by fate, or the characters make their own decisions. Hasty decisions made by the main characters in the play such as their marriage proposal, marriage and the killing of Tybalt cause Romeo and Juliet’s deaths.
