Fatalism In Film Analysis

Google’s definition of fatalism is the belief that all events are predetermined and therefore inevitable. Contemporary art, literature, film and other media show us that our contemporary society goes along with that statement. In most movies it shows us that most things are not predetermined and happen by accident. Fatalism is not present in contemporary society in movies like The Hunger Games, Remember the Titans, and Fast and Furious 7. Firstly, fatalism is not present in contemporary society in the first movie of the Hunger Games series. In this movie, it is predetermined that there will be only one victor to come out of the games, but 2 victors from District 12 made it to be the final two people. Katniss and Peeta tried to eat poisonous berries so they would both die and no one would win. President Snow expressed to them to stop and that they both would be the winners of the Hunger Games. This is anti-fatalistic because this ending is not how the writers intended to end the plot. President Snow predetermined that there was going to be one victor, but Katniss and Peeta convinced them to not have only one victor. Dom and his crew on a mission to acquire Dominic Toretto’s girlfriend Letty back. It is not predetermined that they would steal Letty back. Dominic and his friends had to go through a lot to try to get his girlfriend back. Dominic and his crew risked their lives and their health trying to bring Letty back home. It’s not inevitable that she will even come back with them alive. She might be dead by the time they get her back. This is not fatalistic because the actions of Dominic and his crew are not predetermined in their actions to try and steal Letty back to be a part of their
